Day 21 - All Roads Lead to...New England Traffic

Posted from: Smuggler's Den Campground - Southwest Harbor, Maine
Miles Driven: 333
Total Miles: 3,077

Today we are driving to Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island in Maine.

Observation: New England does not have their traffic figured out. It took us 2 hours to get far enough from Boston that we weren’t cursing the multiple accidents, road construction, back ups, etc.

But before we left, Cameron had to dust the pile of pine needles off the slideouts. While he was up there, he paused to have a conversation with his sister through the roof vent as she put her hair in a ponytail in the camper bathroom. I will take sibling bonding however I can get it.

I will admit that we were a little concerned when we first saw the "blasting zone" signs. They started about five miles into our trip up to Maine. We quickly learned that this means "crash/accident site." Either that or there was an odd coincidence of an accident near every sign.

We made it to Ellsworth, Maine about 30 minutes from our campground and stopped to get some groceries. For whatever reason this grocery store had a four foot section of giant food rations...so naturally Grace wanted to stock up.

We arrived at the campground, made meatball vegetable soup, went swimming (it was only 65 degrees but the pool was very heated...just don’t get out!), and checked on the time of the sunrise. Tomorrow looked like a good morning to go watch the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain. This is where you can see the dawn’s first light 6 months out of the year.

And since tomorrow is the longest day of the year and first day of summer, well...4:49 a.m. was the magical time. Suddenly everyone felt tired.

Good night!
