Day 15 - Grand Canyon: It's a long way down

Posted from: Grand Canyon, AZ, Ten X Campground
Miles driven: 66
Total trip miles: 2,844
Total national parks visited: 9

Refer back to the morning of Day 2 when Matt realized that he had no way to make coffee when we dry camp. We are currently dry camping. But have no fear! We are prepared this time with our new handy dandy collapsible Java drip. It worked perfectly. Notice the look of pure bliss on Matt's face. (He was actually teasing me for wanting to take a picture of him making coffee.)

We got a later than usual start, which was not ideal for hiking around the Grand Canyon. It was hot. And their water pipe that brings water up from the canyon broke, so ther was a water shortage. A lot of the water refill stations along the hiking trails had no water. So they were strongly advising limited hiking today. Well, bummer.

So we walked the rim a bit. We watched the videos in the visitor center. We attended a ranger program about the ruins of the Indians that used to live around the canyon.

The ranger who led the ruins tour was happy to swear in the kids as Junior Rangers.

These were about all of the pictures I took today.

The Grand Canyon is so crowded. Zion was too, of course, by this was a whole new level of crowded. We tried to do some things off the beaten path, but in general it was hard to avoid bumping into someone. It was still fun, and we had a good day over all.

We returned to the campsite, collected more pine cones, tried out the hammock some more, and wrote postcards to grandparents.

And again, we looked at the stars...simply awe inspiring.
