A short three hour travel day today. It looked like it was going to be a stormy day at the Gulf Shores, so that made it easier to say goodbye to this lovely place.
The drive to New Orleans was fairly uneventful. Came across a few people who need to go back to drivers ed, but nothing too bothersome.
The obligatory tunnel pictures while driving through Mobile, AL.
We believe there was a dad with his kids in the truck to the side of us because he kept honking little short honks, not long angry honks. It was cute at first, but this is a long tunnel, so…it was time to calm down.
It rained pretty hard for awhile. Traffic slowed down and everyone behaved.

We arrived around 2:00 at what is perhaps the best campground for those who want to tour New Orleans. It is called the French Quarter RV Resort. Gated, 24 hour security, clean, all full hook ups. Thankfully friends of my parents gave us this tip. Who knew there would be a campground one block off the French Quarter?! It was so ideal! We didn’t have to drive or find parking. We could walk or take public transit everywhere.
It was hot when we arrived. NWS had issued an Excessive Heat Warning. So we walked four blocks to a restaurant that opened at 2:00 called Besame. We ordered some drinks and appetizers. It was so good!!!
We took a quick tour bus ride around the city to get our bearings.

This Walgreens still has its original neon lighting.

This house was in a part of the city that used to be a neighborhood. All but one house was torn down and big commercial buildings went up. All except one that was protected as a historical landmark. It looked a bit awkward amongst the buildings.
This house was built to fill a whole city block…but the city block was VERY small.
Lots of different types of houses.
After the tour we were hot, so we went back to the camper and ordered food from Napoleon House. It was the beginning of our self guided food tour of New Orleans. Jambalaya, gumbo, red beans and rice, muffuletta (the size of your head!), alligator sausage and olive salad. It was all really good.
We closed the day with a dip in the pool, because, did I mention it is hot?!
