It’s Father’s Day! So naturally, Dad made breakfast (with some help from Grace). :) Poor Dad burned his hand with a grease splatter.

It started raining so we ate inside. Then Matt ran up to the clubhouse and was stuck there for the next hour and fifteen minutes while a really bad storm rolled through. At least it was a nice clubhouse.

The kids did dishes during the storm. We lost power at one point, but the nice thing about campers is that you hardly notice. They just switch over to battery and gas back ups.

They guys then played a game.

Water was pouring down the windows in a solid sheet of water.

Matt’s view from the clubhouse. The best thing about this little weather intermission was that it pulled the humidity out of the air and lowered the temperature. The rest of the day was 75 and comfortable. Perfect!

The speed limits were creative and made you pay attention.

The storm was moving out over the water. So impressive.

We walked out on the Gulf Shores State Park Pier. The pictures above were taken from the pier. As we were walking off the pier, it started to sprinkle, so we stopped off at the restaurant at the end of the pier and ordered something to drink to wait it out.

Just as we sat down, the sky broke loose and it poured. A lot. People were running off the pier, but already so soaked it made little difference. No pictures of that because many of the women were not wearing clothing that didn’t become see through when wet, so I didn’t end up with a G rated picture.

The weather cleared up and we walked down to the beach. The water was the warmed salt water I’ve ever been in.

There were several beach warnings including a rip tide warning and a dangerous animal warning so we didn’t plan to swim.

They guys started digging a hole, ‘cause why not?

They discovered the little sea creatures that dig themselves into the sand with every wave of water.

Caleb was then worried about stepping on them, so this pose seemed safer.

About this time, people were seeing the sharks swimming close to shore so those who were in the water quickly got out.

The sun finally came out!!

Tonight we were looking for a place that has lots of steamed seafood, and boy did we find it!! Steamers was just the place!

There was so much food including: shrimp, reds, oysters, clams, and crab. This plate was deep and had layers of food. So. Much. Food.

We ate until…we’ll, I guess until this…

Which led us to partake in some pretty bad touristy things:

Gross.

All of the above shenanigans happened on our way to Matt’s Ice Cream. Our pastor and his wife told us about this place (actually they are the reason we went to Orange Beach on this vacation) and we had to make it happen!  It was awesome! Thanks Caytons!

Walking back to the beach we passed the Hangout. One of Matt’s friends told him about this place so we checked it out for awhile. The live band was great. There was enough to do here to keep you busy for several hours. We hung out for a bit, but the beach was calling, so off we went.

Pez dispensers.

It would take a long time before this ever got old. It was the perfect evening.

Another much larger hole.

Life is good with this guy.

The kids saw that as the tide was going out, there was a sand bar they could walk out to. The next few pictures are of them out on the sandbar.

Walking back to the shore. It wasn’t very deep.

We said goodbye to the beach and drove back to the camper. More pool time was in order.

Dad and Grace stayed at the camper and enjoyed the gas fire. (The o my kind of fire allowed here.)

The rest of us joined them after we left the pool. Tomorrow we head to New Orleans.

Happy Father’s Day Matt!! We couldn’t do any of these adventures without you!
