Posted from: Crescent City, CA - Village Camper Inn
Miles driven: 291
Total trip miles: 5,599
We had a change of plans for today. A couple nights ago, we were looking at and discussing the upcoming days. From the moment last December/January when we settled on our schedule, I was concerned about the four days following our time in San Francisco. It was four long travel days in a row with stops at three national parks. It seemed like vacation burnout waiting to happen. It seemed like the days that marriage counselor's dreams (and paychecks) are made of. It seemed like the moment your kids turn against you in life...and two of them aren't even in their teens yet. It seemed...like a bad idea.
Instead, we decided to skip Lassen Volcanic National Park and spend two nights near Redwood National Park. This would give us a full day to explore the redwood area. Of course it would result in one less national park visited, but this isn't a contest and we are here to have fun, so no objections from this group!
The drive to Crescent City (the far northwest corner of California) was a long one straight up Highway 101. This stretch of 101 is known as the Redwood Highway. So, you know, the views...well, they were the usual ho-hum of gorgeous scenery that we have become accustomed to.
We stopped for lunch. This is how we eat lunch when we are on the road. The slide outs are pulled in, so moving around is a little cramped, but we can still get to the table, refrigerator and sink, so it works. (Notice the table almost touches the wall by Caleb. There is normally about four feet in between.

This is a bit of a corny tourist trap stop to see "Grandfather's Tree" and the "One-Log House", but I took a picture because I remember driving by this when I was younger. It's funny that it is all still there and looks pretty much the same.
We finally arrived at our campground. Our site was beautiful and quiet. The campground itself had huge redwoods all around.
For dinner we had potato soup and fresh baked homemade cookies. This cooler weather makes using the oven much more appealing!
